A Winning Tradition
OLYMPIA --- Mason Koch claimed the individual medalist honor at the Northwest Conference Spring Classic on Sunday, as he led the Bruins to finish fourth out of nine teams.
The Bruins put together a solid final round at the Olympia Country & Golf Club on day two, shooting 10 strokes better than the previous day with a 304-team score. No. 38 Whitworth completed the comeback moving up from second to win the tournament with a 596-team score. No. 28 Pacific Lutheran finished in second with a 603-team score and No. 24 Willamette shot a 604-team score. The Bruins finished in fourth with a 314-304=618.
Mason Koch was near perfect in the final round with a 2-over-par 72 to move up five spots to take the individual medalist honor on the day. Koch finished the two-day tournament with a 7-over-par 75-72=147 to take the tournament by one stroke. This marks Koch's first tournament win on the season and his third win in his career. His previous best finish at the NWC Spring Classic came last season when he took T-9th.
Dante Heitschmidt finished with a 16-over-par 77-79=156 to place T-19th, while Caleb An and Clayton Rajewich both finished T-28th. An signed an 83-77=160 and Rajewich shot a 79-81=160. Joshua Lackey moved up six spots to finish behind An and Rajewich in 30th. Lackey finished his day with a 6-over-par 76 for a 161 total.
"The conditions were tough today," said head coach Branden Thompson. "Mason showed a lot of patience this weekend and that's what won the tournament for him. I think as a team we've got some things to work on, but I'm looking forward to the team grinding it out for the next couple of weeks."
