Bruins In Sixth After First Round of Willamette Spring Thaw

PENDLETON --- The George Fox men's golf team finished the first round of the Willamette Spring Thaw in sixth out of seven teams on Tuesday.


The Bruins finished the first round with a 14-over-par 302 to finish 15 strokes off third place. Whitworth leads the field with a 9-under-par 279-team score, while Willamette is in second with a 283-team score. Corban is in third with a 287-team score and Whitworth's B team is in fourth with a 291. Linfield is ahead of the Bruins in fifth with a 297-team score.

Clayton Rajewich leads the Bruins after the first round with a 2-under-par 70 to place tied for sixth. Mason Koch is right behind Rajewich in T-10th with a 1-under-par 71. Dante Heitschmidt finished T-30th with an 8-over-par 80, while Calen An shot a 9-over-par 81 to place T-32nd. Joshua Lackey finished his round with a 10-over-par 82 to place 34th. Caleb Fernandez, Blake Crane, and Nathaniel Gurnee all competed as individuals for the Bruins. Fernandez finished T-27th with a 78, Crane shot a 79 to take 29th and Gurnee shot an 81 to place T-32nd.

Trent Jones of Willamette leads the field with a 4-under-par 68 to hold a 1-stroke lead over the 36-field player field.

The Bruins will look to move up the leaderboard in the final round of the Willamette Spring Thaw on Saturday, April 20.
