Bruins Move Up One Spot In Final Round of Willamette Spring Thaw

PENDLETON --- The George Fox men's golf team moved up one spot in the final round of the Willamette Spring Thaw on Saturday, as the Bruins placed fifth out of seven teams.


The Bruins shot almost 10 strokes better in the final round to fire off a 294-team score to jump ahead of Linfield College for fifth place. Willamette University won the tournament with a 7-under-par 283-286=569. Whitworth finished in second with a 279-291=570 and Corban took third with a 287-303=590. Whitworth's "B" team finished ahead of the Bruins in fourth with a 593-team score. The Bruins finished the two-day tournament with a 302-294=596-team score.

Mason Koch, Clayton Rajewich, and Caleb An all cracked the top-20 in the 36-player field. Koch led the Bruins with a 71-75=146 to finish in 10th. Rajewich shot a 70-78=148 to finish T-13th, while An moved up 13 spots to finish T-19th with an 81-70=151. Dante Heitschmidt moved up seven spots to finish T-23rd with an 80-73=153 and Joshua Lackey signed an 82-76=158 to take T-30th. Blake Crane, Caleb Fernandez, and Nathaniel Gurnee all competed as individuals for the Bruins. Crane finished in 27th, Fernandez finished T-30th and Gurnee placed 34th.

Trent Jones won the tournament by one stroke with a 6-under-par 68-70=138.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins will end their season at the NWC Championships on April 27-28 at the Wine Valley Golf Course in Walla Walla, Washington.
