VENTURA --- The George Fox men's golf team entered the day tied for seventh place and gained three spots, finishing fourth at the California Lutheran Invitational. Mason Koch led the Bruins with a third-place finish overall in his first tournament of the season.

The Bruins played a third and final round on the par-72 course, turning in a team score of 14-over (878).

Koch gained three spots in a 57-golfer field after a round of 66 on day two, setting a new career and school record for low single round. Koch had previously set the school record a year to the day previous at the same tournament. The senior capitalized on a field-high 15 birdies in his three rounds, shooting seven-under (209) overall. Koch was six-under on all par-four holes in the tournament.

Dante Heitschmidt and Clayton Rajewich finished the third round tied for 27th, each shooting seven-over. Heitschmidt held his place from day two while recording nine holes at par and Rajewich did the same on 11 holes.

Just behind the two was Joshua Lackey who shaved a stroke of his game on day two to finish in a four-way tie at 29th (224, +8). Caleb Fernandez carded a five-over on Tuesday, finishing 51st (236).

"The guys played really well and I'm happy with the start," Coach Branden Thompson said of the result. "It was great to see Mason put up a low number and establish some great momentum for the season."
