Bruins Second In Standings After Opening Round In Gearhart

GEARHART, Ore. --- The George Fox men's golf team sits in second place in the George Fox Invitational after the first round of play on Saturday, Oct. 5.


Playing on the historic Gearhart Golf Links – the oldest U.S. course west of the Mississippi river – the Bruins are five strokes behind Pacific Lutheran on the team leaderboard after day one. The Links course spans 6551 yards and is a par-72 course, with a long 640-yard, par-5 18th hole to cap each round.

Clayton Rajewich leads the Bruins after day one with a card of 71 (-1) and is a tie for first on the individual leaderboard after making a team-high four birdies on the day.

Joshua Lackey is three strokes off the pace set by Rajewich in a tie for seventh after shooting a 74 (+2) in round one. Lackey made par on 13 of 18 holes and was plus-one on both the front and back nines in his first trip around the course.

Mason Koch is just behind Lackey with a card of 75 (+3) after balancing three birdies with six bogeys and sits tied for tenth after the first day.

Dante Heitschmidt is 13th on the leaderboard after a round of 76 (+4) on day one. Heitschmidt made par 12 times and birdied once in his opening round.

Caleb Fernandez is in a tie for 28th after shooting an 82 (+10) to round out the Bruins' scoring five. Hayden Ledvina is in 43rd after a round of 108 (+36) as an individual golfer that does not affect the Bruins' scoring five.

What Happens Next

The Bruins will finish the tournament with a second round on Sunday, Oct. 6 at the Links in a push for their second tourney win of the 2019-20 season.
