NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox men's tennis team looks to keep the ball moving into the 2018 season after coming off a fantastic showing at the 2017 NCAA ITA Regional Championships.
The Bruins were recently picked third in the 2018 men's tennis preseason poll as announced by the conference office.
The Bruins will be led by senior Spencer Watanabe, who enters the season as a three-time first-team All-NWC selection and a three-time All-American. Watanabe earned that third All-American honor at the ITA Regional Championships in the fall after winning his second consecutive Northwest Regional singles title.
Watanabe will be joined by a William Leach, Alex Namba Tristen Lerma, John Mackay and Davin Lee among others. Leach, the only lefty on the team was stellar in the fall at the ITA Regional Championships, as the freshman met Watanabe in the singles finale.
The Bruins kick off their season with a pair of home nonconference matches against California Tech (Feb. 19) and Hardin-Simmons (Feb. 25). They will then jump right into conference play with the conference opener against Pacific Lutheran. The Bruins will also hit the road March 23-28 for four nonconference matchups in California against Whittier, Occidental, Claremont-Mudd-Scripps and California-Santa Cruz to force the issue of a competitive schedule.
Last season, the Bruins finished 9-9 on the season and 7-5 in the NWC.
