Bruins Open NWC Season With A Win Over Lutes

LAKEWOOD, Wash. --- It was another great day for the George Fox men's tennis team, as the Bruins blanked the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran in the Northwest Conference opener, 9-0.


The Bruins kicked off the big match with three points in doubles. Spencer Watanabe and Will Leach continued their dominance at the No. 1 spot in doubles with an 8-3 win. Brothers Alex Namba and Payton Namba picked up an 8-4 win at the No. 2 spot and Justin Barton and Jonah Wafula won at No. 3 doubles, 8-5.

The Bruins made quick work of singles action, as every single Bruin finished in straight sets. Watanabe won his match at No. 1, 6-0, 6-4, while Leach secured a win at No. 2 doubles, 6-0, 6-1. A. Namba also posted a 6-0, 6-1 win at No. 3 singles, Wafula picked up a perfect 6-0, 6-0 win at No. 5 and Keaton Baker won his match at No. 6 singles, 6-1, 6-0. P. Namba had the closest match in singles play, as the freshman came away with a 6-4, 6-4 victory at No. 4.

What It Means:

The Bruins are 3-0 on the season and 1-0 in the NWC.

George Fox will stay on the road with another NWC match Sunday against Puget Sound.
