Bruins Pound Bearcats In NWC Match

SALEM --- The No. 35-ranked George Fox men's tennis team bounced back with a big Northwest Conference win over Willamette Saturday, as the Bruins swept the Bearcats, 9-0.


The Bruins were in perfect form Saturday, kicking off the match with three straight wins in doubles play. Spencer Watanabe and Will Leach pulled off an 8-1 victory at the No. 1 doubles spot, while the duos of Tristen Lerma/Sam Watt and Nick Ekern/Andrew Dickson won 8-3 at the No. 2 and No. 3 spots, respectively.

With the 3-0 lead heading into singles, the Bruins continued to pour it on the Bearcats. Watanabe won his match at the No. 1 spot, 6-0, 6-2, while Leach captured his victory at No. 2 singles, 6-1, 6-0.

Alex Namba secured a 6-4, 6-0 win at the No. 3 spot and Nick Ekern won at the No. 4 spot, 6-2, 6-1. Sam Watt was solid for the Bruins at the No. 5 spot with a 6-1, 6-2 win. Lerma closed out the match for the Bruins with a 6-0, 6-3 victory.

What It Means:

The Bruins improve to 10-4 on the season and 4-2 in the NWC. The Bruins are currently in fourth in the NWC standings.
