A Winning Tradition
WALLA WALLA --- The George Fox men's tennis team is off to continue its legacy at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships from Sept. 21-24 at Whitman College.
The championships will take place at Whitman's outdoor courts as well as the Bratton Indoor Tennis Center and Walla Walla High School.
The four-day tournament is comprised of both singles and doubles action with over 60 players participating in the singles main draw. This ITA Northwest Regional is one of nine going on across the country. Winners of the nine regional tournaments earn All-American status and qualify for the Oracle Cup National Championships in Rome, Georgia, in October.
For the first time at George Fox, the Bruins have nine players competing in singles play and five of the top 16 seeds. As for doubles play, the Bruins have four teams looking to come out on top.
The Bruins have had quite the ride the last two seasons at the ITA. In 2017, Spencer Watanabe came away as the singles champ, playing fellow teammate Leach in the championship. In the 2016 season, Watanabe joined A. Namba as the doubles champions, and Watanabe won his first singles championship.
