A Winning Tradition
Leach and Baker both earned All-American honors after capturing the doubles title over No. 1-seed Kirsh and Chikkalingaiah from Whitman. Before the doubles title, Leach won the men's singles title to mark the third time a Bruin has won that event. With Baker and Leach earning All-American honors, the Bruins are now up to six All-Americans in the last three years.
This marked the second time in the program's history that the Bruins have swept both the singles and doubles titles at the ITA Northwest Regional Championships. With the wins, the Bruins have earned a spot at the ITA Cup where they will compete for the National title with the eight other regional winners.
The ITA Oracle Cup was formerly known as the Small College Nationals, dating back to 1986. The tournament consists of the top eight players (men and women) in NCAA Division II, III, and NAIA. Before this event, more than 8,000 players took part in a total of 60 regional tournaments to gain entry into the ITA Cup field.
Leach will face Joshua Bode of Concordia –Texas in the play-in match at 9:00 a.m. (PST). Leach will then join Baker for doubles action against Pitts/Lambeth from Trinity – Texas at 12:00 p.m. (PST).
