Bruins Dominate Top-Ranked Banana Slugs

NEWBERG --- The sun was out and shining for the George Fox men's tennis team Tuesday afternoon, as the Bruins hosted No. 31 UC Santa Cruz in a dominating 8-1 win performance.


This marked the first time the Bruins have beaten the nationally ranked and historic Banana Slugs of UC Santa Cruz.

The Bruins opened up the match in doubles play, taking the No. 2 and No. 3 spots. Alex Namba and Justin Barton got the ball rolling for the Bruins with an 8-2 victory. Will Leach and Keaten Baker matched up against UCSC's No. 1 team in Ryan Dugan and Chad Le Duff. In a match full of battles and momentum shifts, the Banana Slugs grabbed an 8-5 win to even up the score. Payton Namba and Thierry Van Os were crucial for the Bruins at the No. 2 spot. Namba and Van Os captured the Bruins' second point to give the home team a 2-1 lead heading into singles.

The Bruins thrived in singles play, picking up a point in all six matches.

The Bruins will take a break in action before they pick back up in the spring.
