Lemaitre Leads Bruins Against Vikings

PORTLAND --- The George Fox men's tennis team opened up its 2019 season with a match against NCAA Division I Portland State on Friday, dropping the match, 6-1.

The Bruins came out swinging against the Vikings in doubles, as Will Leach and Luke Lemaitre were more than ready for the challenge. The Bruin pair of Leach/Lemaitre showed their eagerness for the 2019 season, taking an early 4-0 lead in the match. Vikings' Avery West and Tommy Edwards were able to settle down, though, rallying back to take the match, 6-4. Thierry Van Os and Payton Namba also had a solid match for the Bruins at the No. 3 doubles spot. Van Os and Namba held their own against Sam Roberts and Majeed Bukhari before falling, 7-5.

The Vikings ran away with it in singles winning five of the six matches. Lemaitre grabbed the Bruins only point at the No. 2 spot in singles with a 2-6, 6-2, 6-3 victory over Lucas Castelo Branco.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins tough competition won't slow down in the spring as they face NCAA Div. I Seattle University on March 8 at 3:30 pm.
