PORTLAND, Ore. – Bethany Chriss and Taylor Whitmore homered in a five-run 2nd inning in the first game and the George Fox University Bruins banged out 15 hits in the second en route to an 8-1, 8-6 Northwest Conference softball sweep of the Lewis & Clark College Pioneers Saturday afternoon here at the Huston Sports Complex.

Erin Lee (8-12) was sharp on the mound for the Bruins in the opener, pitching a four-hitter with one strikeout and no walks.  The only run she allowed was unearned in the 1st inning when Jaimie Moon singled, advanced on a sacrifice, and scored on an error at second.

Lee’s teammates scored early and often against Pioneer starter Caroline DeVincenzi (1-13).  In the top of the 1st, Serena Lee singled for the first of her three hits in the game and Kerrianne Davidson walked, and both advanced on a wild pitch.  Lee scored on Shelby Klein’s fielder’s choice grounder, and Davidson crossed on a sacrifice bunt by Shelby Briske.

In the George Fox 2nd, Amy Lepire and Erin Lee walked, Serena Lee singled to load the bases, and Davidson unloaded them with a three-run double to center.  Paige McFeeley replaced DeVincenzi on the hill, and Chriss greeted her with a two-run shot to left, her sixth of the season.  Whitmore hit her first of the year, a solo drive to left, to close out the scoring in the 3rd.

In the second game, the Bruins got a run in the 1st as Serena Lee singled, stole second, and scored on Davidson’s single up the middle.  The Pios went ahead with a pair in the 2nd as Caitlin Relyea hit a solo home run and Gabby Castro singled in Michael Satter.

George Fox took the lead in the 4th on a three-run home run to center by Becka Doyle, her fourth of the season, with Briske and Whitmore aboard.  The Bruins added two in the 5th as Davidson scored on a wild pitch and Whitmore singled in Briske, and they made it 8-2 in the 6th on an RBI double by Serena Lee and single by Klein that scored Davidson.

Relyea hit her second home run of the game in the 6th, a two-run blast, though both runs were unearned.  The Pios scored another in the inning on a single by Satter and an RBI double by Castro to cut the margin to 8-5, and they added an unearned run in the 7th on an RBI single by Danielle Blechert.  However, Erin Lee in relief got Relyea to hit into a force out at third with two runners on to preserve the victory.

Whitmore (3-15) went 5.2 innings to get the win, spacing six hits while allowing four runs, two earned.  She fanned two and walked only one before Lee finished up.  Kristen Breninger (1-9) took the loss for the Pios, allowing seven hits and four earned runs in 4.0 innings before McFeele y gave up eight hits and four runs in the final 3.0 innings.

Davidson and Klein led the Bruins’ 15-hit attack by going 3-for-4 each, while Doyle, Whitmore, and Serena Lee had two hits apiece.  Castro was 3-for-3 and Relyea had two hits, both homers, for the Pios.

Both teams conclude their seasons Sunday against each other, this time with a doubleheader at 12:00 noon at George Fox.  Erin Lee is the only Bruin senior who will playing her final home games.  George Fox is 11-27 overall and 5-21 in the conference, while Lewis & Clark is 3-34 overall and 0-26 in the league.
