Abbie Bergerson Earns National Honor

NEWBERG, Ore. --- With a year of firsts upon its 2015 campaign, the No. 25-ranked George Fox softball team notched another first on Wednesday, as Abbie Bergerson became the first Bruin to be selected as the Louisville Slugger/National Fastpitch Coaches Association (NFCA) Division III National Pitcher of the Week.  

This year, Bergerson has led the top ranked Bruins to a Northwest Conference best 23-5 on the season. She has managed to record 14 wins in the circle, while absorbing just two losses. She has thrown over 98 innings and recorded 52 strikeouts. She has added two saves to her resume and has an ERA of 1.92.

Last week, Bergerson went 5-0 with a shutout and an ERA of 1.21. The freshman has been dominant in the circle for the Bruins earning both wins in a sweep over Linfield, which the Bruins haven't been abl to do since 2001. She collected wins against Concordia, Schreiner and Willamette during the week as well. In her 26 innings of work, she allowed a total of 29 hits, eight runs (5 earned), five walks and 16 strikeouts.

Bergerson will lead the charge this weekend, as the Bruins host Whitworth in what will be a Northwest Conference showdown for first place in the standings.
