NEWBERG, Ore. ---George Fox University's softball team has had a year of firsts in 2015 and will look to continue that success as the squad heads into the four-team Northwest Conference Tournament this weekend.

This year, the Bruins have gone 29-11 to set a program record for most wins in a season. They have reached their highest seed ranking in conference play at No. 2 and received their first ranking in program history at No. 25, according to the NFCA Division III Top 25 Poll. This postseason berth marks just the second time in 21 years.

George Fox is led by a duo of freshmen pitchers in Abbie Bergerson and Madison Sorensen, who both crack the top-five list in the NWC stats columns. Bergerson is first in innings pitched (146.1), second in wins (18), fourth in strikeouts (80), fourth in ERA (1.91) and tied for second in saves (2). Sorensen, on the other hand, is first in saves (5), second in strikeouts (101) and second in strikeouts per game (7.21). Bergerson was also the first-ever Bruin pitcher to be named NFCA Div. III National Pitcher of the Week.

As a team, the Bruins are first in runs scored (192), RBIs (178) walks (73) and tied for first in home runs in conference play (26). Junior shortstop Kayla Anderson leads the team at the plate with a .396 batting average, good for fifth place in the NWC. She is also a two-time recipient of the NWC Softball Position Student-Athlete of the Week from Feb. 9-15 and Feb. 23-March 1.

This weekend, the Bruins will have a rematch with the Boxers of Pacific, who split a four-game series with the Bruins to end the regular season.
