NEWBERG --- The George Fox softball team kicked off the 2019 season against NAIA powerhouse No. 10 Oregon Tech, losing a pair of tough games at home, 11-1 and 8-2.

Game One:

Allison Meyer, the top home run hitter in the Northwest Conference last year, started the 2019 season as you might expect: with a home run. The homer put the Bruins up 1-0 in the bottom of the first inning.

After a scoreless second inning, the Owls got it going in the top of the third. They scratched across five runs to storm into the lead.

Oregon Tech kept rolling, hitting a pair of homers for an additional four runs in the top of the fourth, and then managed to scratch across another pair of runs in the top of the fifth to take the game before the Bruins were able to get back into their groove.

Game Two:

The Owls started strong in game two as well, putting three quick runs on the board in the top of the first inning.

Savannah Vargas responded for the Bruins, hitting a home run out of right field to set the score at 3-1 heading into the second inning.

Oregon Tech scratched across a run in the top of the second, but Vargas was able to respond with yet another home run in the bottom of the third, setting the score at 4-2.

A run in the top of the fourth, a pair of runs in the top of the fifth, and a run in the top of the sixth gave the Owls a solid lead from which the Bruins were unable to recover.
