A Winning Tradition
NEWBERG --- The George Fox swim team was back in action Friday night, as the Bruins kicked off the New Year with a Northwest Conference dual meet against the Willamette Bearcats.
Willamette came away victorious with a combined score of 249-134. The Bruin women nearly pulled off their first victory of the season, narrowly falling, 105-92.
The women had great races in the 200-yard medley relay, the 1650-yard freestyle, the 200-yard freestyle, the 50-yard freestyle, the 100-yard butterfly, the 100-yard freestyle, the 500-yard freestyle, the 100-yard breaststroke, and the 200-yard freestyle relay.
On both the men's and women's sides, the Bruins came away with eight individual event wins and one relay victory on the day.
Grace Ferguson set the tone with a win in the women's 1,650-yard freestyle after producing a time of 19:38.42. Chloe Weber followed suit with a victory in the women's 200-yard freestyle with a time of 2:06.97. Kaitlyn Brookes finished right behind Weber in second with a time of 2:12.80. Aspen Monkhouse won the women's 50-yard freestyle for her fifth consecutive meet with a time of 24.31. Monkhouse also won the women's 100-yard free with a time of 57.15.
Olivia Gibson was behind Monkhouse in the 50-yard free to take second with a time of 26.03. Gibson went on to win women's 100-yard butterfly with a time of 1:03.14 to grab nine points for the Bruins.
Caleb Dean was the bright spot on the men's team, grabbing a victory in the 200-yard freestyle and the 100-yard backstroke.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins will host a tri-meet Saturday, Jan. 12, against the College of Idaho and SWOCC. The meet starts at 11 am.
