A Winning Tradition
NEWBERG --- The George Fox swim team opened its home slate with a duel match against the Whitworth Pirates on Friday, Nov. 1, in the Chehalem Aquatic Center. Whitworth won the men's and women's competitions to claim both sides of the dual meet.
After a delayed start – the Pirates' bus broke down en route to the meet – the Bruins began the 22-event evening with some early highlights.
The 200 yard freestyle was a good event for the Bruin women, as Gabrielle Wood placed second with a time of 2:03.86. Tessa Orozco claimed third with a 2:08.43 pace, and Chloe Weber came in fourth at 2:10.48 to help the Bruins claim 48 points in the event.
Aspen Monkhouse won the 50 yard freestyle outright with a time of 24.76 to claim nine points for the Bruins. In the 100 yard fly, Olivia Gibson placed second with a time of 1:01.40 to grab four points for the Bruins' team tally.
Maddy Andergame took third in the 100 yard backstroke after swimming a time of 1:07.40 for three points, and Wood took third in the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:14.87.
The Bruin men also placed in the top three in several events on the night against a tough, deep Pirates roster.
Caleb Dean came in third in the 200 yard freestyle with at time of 1:49.03 for three points and added another three by taking third in the 100 yard backstroke with a 55.50 pace.
Jason Levi Gibson won the 100 yard breaststroke with a time of 1:04.04 for nine of the Bruins' points and added another four after placing second in the 50 yard freestyle with a time of 22.43.
Elijah Dapkus came in second in the 100 yard fly with a time of 56:04 to score four points for the Bruins. Dapkus was also just behind Gibson in the 50 freestyle with a time of 23:30 to take third in the event four three Bruin points.
Geuel Christian Villacrusis came in third in the 100 yard freestyle at 53.69 for three Bruin points as the Bruins' final top-three finisher of the night.

The Bruins have a quick turnaround as they play host for the Whitman Blues on Saturday, Nov. 2, at 1:00 pm in the Chehalem Aquatic Center.
