Bruins Break Program Record on First Night of NWC Championships

Federal Way, Wash. --- The George Fox swimming relay teams kicked off the Northwest Conference Championships on Thursday night as the men's 800-yard freestyle relay team set a new program record.


The men saved their best performance for their last run of the night, setting a new standard in the 800 free relay. Caleb Dean, Jason Levi Gibson, Hunter Bartoo, and Elijah Dapkus obliterated the old record of 7:59.37 with a mark of 7:11.64. The Bruins time was good for a seventh-place finish.

Bartoo also joined William Anderson, Austin Burdick, and Geuel Christian Villacrusis in the 200 medley relay earlier in the night when the squad finished sixth at 1:43.52.

The women put forth two solid efforts in their relays as well, with the 800 free squad falling less than a second short of the program record. Olivia Gibson, Chloe Weber, Madeline Angerame, and Gabrielle Wood bested their seed time by nearly 16 seconds with a time of 8:01.95. The mark earned the quad a fifth-place finish.

The 200 medley relay team of Angerame, Annabelle Hynes, Tessa Orozco, Aspen Monkhouse improved on their seed time as well, finishing sixth after clocking a 1:50.91.

What Happens Next

The Bruins return to the Weyerhaeuser King County Aquatic Center tomorrow, Feb. 14 for the morning session of day two. The preliminaries will begin at 10:00 a.m. with finals slated for 6:00 p.m.
