Decker Leads Field After First Round of Culturame Classic

CANBY --- The No. 3-ranked George Fox women's golf team hosted the Culturame Classic at the Willamette Valley Country Club Saturday afternoon, as the Bruins hold an 18-stroke lead over the field of five teams.


The Bruins fired off a 303-team score to sit in first over Lewis & Clark, Whitman, Corban University and UC Santa Cruz. Lewis & Clark is in second with a 321 score, while Whitman is in third with a 330 team score.

The Bruins placed all five golfers inside the top-10. Janelle Decker leads the field of 36 players with a 2-over-par 74 on the scorecard. She holds a two-stroke lead over teammates Iris Kawada and Alex McMenamin, who are both tied for second with a 4-over-par 76. Kayle Hunn is tied for fifth with a 5-over-par 77, while Rachel Drgastin shot a 79 and is tied for seventh.

As for the individuals, Kaitlyn Tonai shot a 77 and is tied with Hunn for fifth. Nicolle Nitta sits T-14th with an 83, while Tianna Brown shot an 88 and is T-21st.
