Top-Ranked Athenas Beat Bruins

CLAREMONT --- The George Fox women's lacrosse team ended its California trip against No. 21 Claremont-Mudd-Scripps Wednesday, as the Bruins fell to the top-ranked Athenas, 19-6.

CMS showed why it's a top-ranked competitor, as the home team jumped out to a 5-0 lead in the early going.

The Bruins settled in soon after with a goal from Jocelyn Welberg, but the Athenas continued to create separation from the Bruins. Jess Hanson found the back of the net with 15 minutes left in the first half, but CMS responded with another two goals to bring the score to 9-2.

Lois Ray got in on the action for the Bruins with an assisted goal from Hanson, but CMS ended the first half with three straight goals to take a 12-3 lead.

The Bruins fought hard for the remainder of the game, but were unable to climb back from the early deficit.

Top Performers:

Hanson led the Bruins on the night with two goals and two assists. Mikaela Easterlin had her hands full all night, but the senior recorded 17 saves on the 36 shots she faced.

What It Means:

The Bruins sit at 6-2 on the season.

The Bruins will head back home and face Linfield on the road Saturday, March 31 at 1 pm.
