Bruins Send Seniors Off With A Bang

NEWBERG --- The George Fox women's lacrosse team closed out its season with a 23-3 victory over Linfield College on senior day, Saturday afternoon.


The Bruins were in true form on Saturday, as they scored 13 goals in the first half and 10 in the second.

The two teams traded a goal apiece to kick off the game, but the Bruins fired off seven straight goals to take an 8-1 lead after 17 minutes of action.

Jennifer Burke, Madison Strickland, Madison Stratton, Emma Fanger and Jess Hanson all got in on the action for the Bruins.

The 'Cats were able to sneak one in again at the 13:42 mark, but the Bruins were unfazed. George Fox went on to end the first half with five straight goals to take a 13-2 lead. Jess Hanson led the way after the first 30 minutes with four goals and three assists.

After the break, the Bruins had no sign of cooling down. Hanson and Ray kicked off the second half with two quick goals and the Bruins continued to lengthen their gap. Senior goalkeeper Mikaela Easterlin even got in on the action, as she took the field as a midfielder and scored her first goal of the season at the 15:25 mark.

The Bruins ended the game with two more goals under five minutes to take the 23-3 victory.

Top Performers:

Hanson finished her final game as a Bruin with nearly half the points, as the senior recorded seven goals and four assists for 11 points. Hanson ties her own school record in a single-game with points at 11. She recorded 11 points earlier in the season against Puget Sound on March 3. Easterlin earned her 11th win of the season and is 11-2 on the season. Meredith Teel and Lois Ray chipped in four points each.

What It Means:

The Bruins end the season with an overall record of 11-2 and their second straight undefeated season in the conference at 8-0. This marked the third straight season the Bruins have secured an NWC Championship. George Fox honored Marissa Gill, Alyssa Poffenroth and Jess Hanson before the game as the three seniors on the team.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins will enjoy some well-deserved offseason time before they gear up to defend their title in 2019.
