NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's soccer team hosted Whitman College in a tightly-contested conference match-up Saturday with the result coming as a double overtime tie, 1-1.
The Bruins looked to score early and often in the first half, pressing Whitman's defense with seven shots in the first 30 minutes of play. The onslaught paid off as Bruin forward Hannah Harder was able to net a beautiful goal in the 29th minute off a pinpoint pass from midfielder Cassie Wilson, putting the Bruins up 1-0.
Whitman retaliated in the 43rd minute when a corner kick managed to slip through the Bruins' defense and even the score at 1-1 going into halftime.
The second half was filled with back-and-forth play as both teams struggled to get the upper hand. Both team weren't able to put the game away with the game-winner, resulting in extra time.
Both teams headed into the first extra period with the score at 1-1.
The Bruins had four shots at the keeper in the first period of overtime and three in the second, but were unable to close out their opponents as the game ended in a tie.
George Fox more than doubled Whitman's total shots (30-14), and statistically out-paced the opposition in each period of play.
Harder led the Bruins' offense with eight total shots, four of which hit the keeper in the hands, and one finding the back of the net. Forward Savannah Moisan also chipped in eight shots and three on target.
The Bruins continue home play against Whitworth Sunday, Oct. 2 at 12p.m.
