Bruins Blank Boxers in Conference Opener

FOREST GROVE, Ore. --- The George Fox women's soccer team opened Northwest Conference play against Pacific (Ore.) Wednesday, earning a win on the road, 1-0.


Senior forward Emma Logan set the offensive tone with a shot against the opposing keeper in just over a minute of play.

The Bruins kept up the effort with a goal coming in the 17th minute. Junior Jayli Miyamoto took a pass from Abby Anderson and managed to find the back of the net in a one-on-one against the opposing keeper, giving the Bruins the 1-0 lead.

George Fox outshot the Boxers 6-3 in the first half while holding them scoreless.

The Bruins stayed aggressive in the second half, tallying six shots. The defense, however, was where the team shined. Holding the home team to just one shot in the second half, the Bruins earned the sweep as the Boxers were unable to score.

The game ended with George Fox victorious, 1-0.

Top Performers:

Miyamoto and Anderson led the Bruins on offense with a goal and an assist, respectively. Logan tallied three shots while Miyamoto, Chloe Shumaker and Puka Ahina contributed two apiece.

Kelsey Kammerzell tallied a save and the shutout in goal for the Bruins.

What It Means:

The Bruins open conference play undefeated and move to 3-1 on the season.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins travel to Washington on Sunday to take on Puget Sound in a conference matchup set for 12:00pm.
