NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox women's soccer team hosted the Whitworth Pirates in a Saturday morning conference matchup, losing the close contest, 1-0.


George Fox opened up the game with two shots on goal in just the first four minutes of play.

However, it was the Pirates who managed to strike first in this one, netting a goal in the 12th minute on a penalty kick.

The Bruins stayed aggressive throughout the first half, outshooting Whitworth 7-4, but were unable to find the back of the net as the time ran out, 1-0.

Down 1-0 and needing a goal, the Bruins played an aggressive second half. The team recorded five shots: two were on-target and were saved by the keeper and three that were blocked by the Whitworth defense.

George Fox played well on the defensive end in the second half, holding the opposition to just three shots, but were unable to put their offense in a position to score through the final 45.

Top Performers:

Allie Day recorded three shots off the bench for the Bruins in this one while Puka Ahina, Jayli Miyamoto and Chloe Shumaker all contributed two.

What It Means:

The Bruins move to 3-3 on the season and 1-2 in conference play.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins will host Whitman Sunday, Sept. 24, for a conference matchup set for 12:00pm.
