Bruins Bring Down Bearcats

SALEM, Ore. --- The George Fox women's soccer team traveled to Salem on Sunday to take on the Willamette Bearcats, earning the tough conference win on the road, 2-1.


The Bruins came out looking to score with a pair of good shots in the first 15 minutes of the game by Puka Ahina and Michala Denn.

After knocking on the door early, the Bruins found the back of the net in the 18th minute. Denn bagged her first goal of the season on a deflected shot by Ahina, giving the road team the early lead.

It did not take long for Bruins to strike again, this time coming on a penalty kick in the 48th minute. Ahina lined up to take the penalty and was successful, earning her first goal of the season and setting the score at 2-0.

George Fox held the Bearcats scoreless until the 89th minute. A last second penalty kick by Willamette wasn't enough as the Bruins came out of Salem with a win, 2-1.

Top Performers:

Freshman forward Ahina led the offense in this one, tallying four shots (three on-target), a goal and an assist. Denn played well also, tallying four shots (two on-target) and a goal. Kylie Louis chipped in two shots of her own to round out the offensive effort.

Bruin keeper Annalisa Klein came in off the bench in the second half and tallied a remarkable five saves in six shots on goal.

What It Means:

The Bruins move to 5-4-2 overall and 3-3-2 in conference play.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins host Pacific (Ore.) on Wednesday in a conference matchup set for 7:00pm.
