Bruins Fall In Overtime Against Puget Sound

NEWBERG --- The George Fox women's soccer team hosted Puget Sound on Sunday, losing a nail biter in overtime, 1-0.


The Bruin defense fended off an early onslaught by the Loggers, blocking a whopping five shots in the opening eight minutes.

The Bruins created a number of chances in the first half, going shot-for-shot with Puget Sound in the first period. Both sides tallied seven shots, though both sides were unable to score in the first 45.

Bruin keeper Annalisa Klein was forced to make three saves early in the second half to keep the Loggers at bay.

George Fox earned a penalty kick in the 77th minute which the Bruins were unable to convert. Savannah Moisan received a double-yellow card in the minutes following, leading to her being sent off.

The teams went into extra time 0-0 with the Bruins playing with only ten players.

Puget Sound found the back of the net in the 98th minute on a counterattack, stealing the game in the last minute in a heartbreaker, 1-0.

Top Performers:

Moisan provided consistent pressure on offense, tallying four shots, two of which were on frame. Jaydn McMillan, Amy Hatter and Karlyn Stokes all chipped in two shots to round out the Bruins' offensive effort. Klein played well in goal, saving six shots on the day.

What It Means:

The Bruins move to 3-4-1 overall and 1-4-1 in conference play after Sunday's matchup.

The Bruins take on Whitworth on the road on Saturday, Oct. 6, at 12:00pm.
