A Winning Tradition

SPOKANE --- The George Fox women's soccer team played Whitworth in a conference matchup on the road on Saturday, narrowly dropping the hard-fought contest, 2-1.
The Pirates struck early, finding the back of the net on a corner kick in just the seventh minute of play.
Down 1-0, the Bruins struggled to create chances on offense through much of the first half. In the final five minutes leading up to the break, however, George Fox managed to test the opposing keeper as Karlyn Stokes and Jaydn McMillan put shots on frame.
The score remained 1-0 as the teams entered the halftime break.
The Bruins equalized less than a minute into the second half. Stokes sent a pass in to Amy Hatter who tapped the ball into the bottom right corner of the of the net, evening the score at one apiece.
George Fox went toe-to-toe with the high-powered Whitworth offense through the final 45 minutes, as both teams tallied six shots in the period. Unfortunately, the Pirates managed to take the lead in the 84th minute, setting the score at 2-1.
The Bruins had twice the amount of shots on target through 90 minutes, but the Whitworth keeper had herself a game, registering five saves in the contest.
Hatter was the one who found pay dirt for the Bruins in this one, scoring on a pass from Stokes. McMillan did a good job keeping pressure on the keeper, tallying two shots, both of which were on frame.
What It Means:
The Bruins move to 3-5-1 overall and 1-5-1 in conference play.

The Bruins continue their road trip with a game against Whitman on Sunday at 12:00pm.
