Bruins Drop Nonconference Match to Bearcats

SALEM, Ore. --- The Bruins traveled to Willamette University Wednesday evening to take on the Bearcats in a nonconference match that resulted in a 7-2 loss.

Recap:

The Bruins weren't able to come out on top in doubles, as the Bearcats won at the No. 1 spot, 8-3 and narrowly grabbed a point at the No. 2 spot, 9-8 (7-5). Laney Search and Sophia Lawrence wouldn't let the Bearcats take the sweep, as the pair won at the No. 3 spot in a strong fashion, 8-1.

Catrina Kwong had the best battle in singles for the Bruins at the top spot. Kwong met Mikaila Smith on the court for the No. 1 showdown and the match was extremely tight. Kwong opened up the match with a 7-6 (8-6) first set win, but dropped the second 6-7 (4-7) to go into a tiebreaker. Kwong rallied in the final set to give the Bruins their second point of the match, 1-0 (10-3). Danielle Brown also had a tiebreaker at the No. 6 spot, but fell to Hannah Andres.

The Bruins kick off Northwest Conference play against Pacific Lutheran March 3 at 1 pm.
