Bruins Edge Lutes In NWC Opener

BEAVERTON, Ore. --- The George Fox women's tennis team kicked off Northwest Conference play with a big win over Pacific Lutheran, 8-1.


The Bruins were dominant in doubles, as they kicked off the match with a quick 8-0 win at No. 1 doubles from Catrina Kwong and Kristen Mock. Jillian Studer and Lydia Pia kept the momentum up with an 8-1 win at No. 2 doubles. Laney Search and Sophia Lawrence put the icing on the cake at the No. 3 spot with an 8-1 victory to grab all three points for the Bruins.

With a 3-0 lead heading into singles, Mock flexed her muscles again, taking down Hannah Jeffries at the No. 2 spot, 6-0, 6-1. Studer, Pia and Search all picked up straight-set wins as well to give the Bruins the match victory. Kwong had one of the two tiebreaker sets of the match, narrowly falling at the No. 1 spot, 6-0, 4-6, 0-1 (3-10). Lawrence grabbed the Bruins' final point at the No. 4 spot with the other tiebreaker set of the match, but this time coming out on top. Lawrence strung together a 3-6, 6-0, 6-1 victory.

What It Means:

The Bruins improve to 3-2 on the season and open NWC play 1-0.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins will take on Puget Sound on the road Sunday at 11 am.
