Bruins Narrowly Fall To Loggers

BEAVERTON, Wash. --- The George Fox women's tennis team had a heartbreaker on Sunday, dropping a tightly contested match to Puget Sound, 5-4.


The Bruins opened up the match in control after taking a 2-1 lead in doubles. Sophia Lawrence and Laney Search secured the Bruins' first point at No. 3 doubles with an 8-2 win. Catrina Kwong and Kristen Mock played out a tough match at the No. 1 spot against Loggers' Lisa Owen and Barclay Fagg. The Bruins were able to come away with a big 8-4 victory at the No. 1 spot. The Loggers grabbed their first point at the No. 2 spot in doubles.

With the Bruins leading 2-1 heading into singles, the Loggers were able to grab points from 1-4. Lawrence had the biggest match at the No. 4 spot with a three-set match. Lawrence won the first match in a super tiebreaker, 7-6 (7-0), but fell in the final two, 6-4, 6-2. Laney Search won at No. 5 singles 7-6 (8-6), 6-1, while Emily Brink came away with a No. 6 singles win, 6-1, 7-6 (7-3).

What It Means:

The Bruins drop to 3-3 on the season and 1-1 in the NWC.

What Comes Next:

George Fox will travel to Washington next week with matches against Whitman and Whitworth March 10-11.
