NEWBERG --- The George Fox women's tennis team hosted the Pirates of Whitworth University on Sunday, dropping the Northwest Conference match, 6-3.


The Pirates came into the match with a 5-2 overall record and 2-1 conference record on the season. Last night, they battled Lewis & Clark in a gutsy 5-4 win and used that momentum into today's match. The Pirates took the first two points in doubles action, as they won the No. 1 doubles, 8-4, and the No. 3 doubles, 8-5. Sophia Lawrence and Laney Search were in harmony at the No. 2 spot, battling back for each point to slowly grab a lead. The pair went on to give the Bruins their first point of the match in an 8-4 showing.

The Pirates went into singles action with a 2-1 lead. Jillian Studer was unable to finish her match at the No. 1 spot with a forfeit due to injury and the Pirates grabbed another point at the No. 2 spot to take a 4-1 lead. Taylor Morris gave the Bruins some breathing room at the No. 5 spot with a 7-6, 6-0 win, but the Pirates sealed the match with a 6-1, 6-3 win at the No. 6 spot. Not showing any quit, Danielle Brown won her match at the No. 4 spot in a three-setter, 1-6, 7-6, 1-0 (10-5).

What It Means:

The Bruins fall to 3-7 on the season and 1-2 in the NWC.

What Comes Next:

The Bruins will take a break from conference play next week, as they will compete in Orlando, Florida, March 21-26.
