Pios Edge Bruins In 7-2 Match

NEWBERG --- The George Fox women's tennis team hosted Lewis & Clark College in a Northwest Conference match on Sunday, falling 7-2 to the Pioneers.


The Pioneers grabbed an early lead in doubles, as Sophia Lawrence and Laney Search fell at the No. 1 spot, 8-5. Bruins' Megan Wilks and Taylor Morris were quick to answer for the Bruins at the No. 3 spot against Natalie Kowal and Caroline Hennes. The tandem of Wilks and Morris powered through for an 8-7 (7-5) tiebreaker victory to even up the score. The Pios came out on top in doubles action, winning at No. 2, 8-4.

With the 2-1 lead going into singles, the Pios used their momentum to take five of the six points in the lineup. Lawrence and Emily Brink had the two three-sets of the match but were unable to steal those points. Morris recorded the Bruins' lone point in singles at the No. 4 spot, beating Carla Thomas, 6-3, 6-3.

What It Means:

With the loss, the Bruins fall to 5-12 on the season and 1-3 in the NWC.

The Bruins will host Whitman on Friday, April 12, at 3:30 pm.
