Bruins Bounce Back With Win Over Bearcats

SALEM --- The George Fox women's tennis team bounced back with a 7-2 victory on Saturday in a Northwest Conference match against the Bearcats of Willamette.


The Bruins were quick to get on the board, as Jillian Studer and Taylor Morris won their match at the No. 2 spot, 8-3. Danielle Brown and Alyssa Byde kept the momentum going at the No. 3 spot with an 8-5 win to put the Bruins up 2-0. Sophia Lawrence and Laney Search had the longest match of the day, as Bearcats' Sarah Dean and Robin Pashek threw everything they could at the Bruin duo. Lawrence and Search came out on top with an 8-6 victory to give the Bruins a clean sweep in doubles play.

The Bearcats were able to answer in singles, though, securing a point at the No. 1 spot. Lawrence was able to win her match at No. 2 singles with a 6-1, 6-2, victory, but the Bearcats grabbed another point at the No. 3 spot. Search, Brown, and Byde closed out the match with wins at No. 4, 5, and 6 singles, respectively. Search won her match by way of 6-3, 6-4, while Brown pulled out a 6-2, 6-2 victory. Byde had the final match of the day at the No. 6 spot with a 6-0, 6-4 victory.

What It Means:

The Bruins improve to 6-13 on the season and 2-4 in the NWC.

The Bruins will host their final home match of the season against Linfield on Sunday, April 14, at 11 am.
