Bruins Fall To Undefeated 'Cats

A Winning Tradition

  • One Northwest Conference Tournament (2017)

NEWBERG --- The George Fox women's tennis team hosted its final home match of the season, as the Bruins fell to No. 29 Linfield College, 9-0, on Sunday.

The Wildcats were quick to assert their dominance in the match, sweeping all three points in doubles. Both the Bruins' No. 1 and No. 3 teams finished with an 8-4 score but were unable to get over the hump against the undefeated Wildcats. In fact, Linfield is the only undefeated team in conference play and is ranked No. 6 in the ITA West Region.

With the 3-0 lead after doubles, the 'Cats kept the pressure on with all six points in singles action. Emily Brink recorded the closest match of the day in singles, falling at the No. 6 spot, 6-4, 6-4.

"The team competed very well today and showed improvement once again," said head coach Rick Cruz. "We put ourselves in a position to win some games against the top team in the conference. We hope to finish strong in our final match against Pacific next week."

The Bruins fall to 6-14 on the season and 2-5 in the NWC.
