  • One Northwest Conference Tournament (2017)

FOREST GROVE --- The George Fox women's tennis team closed out its 2019 season with a bang on Friday, as the Bruins took down the Boxers of Pacific (Ore.) University, 6-3.

The Bruins jumped out to an early 2-1 lead after doubles. Sophia Lawrence and Laney Search teamed up at the No. 1 spot with an 8-3 win over Chantelle Baclay and Marissa Hayashi for the Bruins' first point. Taylor Morris and Jillian Studer grabbed the second point of the match with an 8-3 victory at the No. 2 spot. Alyssa Byde and Danielle Brown fought well at the No. 3 spot, but fell to Jessica Eligio and Adrienne Powell, 5-8.

With the 2-1 lead after doubles, the Bruins were the hunt to close out the match in singles play. The Boxers wouldn't make it easy on the Bruins, though, as four of the six matches went into three sets. Morris dropped her first set, 4-6, but rallied to take the next two, 7-5, 6-0, to seal her victory at the No. 2 spot. Brown won her match at No. 4 singles, 7-6, 3-6, 6-4, to grab the Bruins' next point, while Byde pulled off the huge comeback at No. 5 singles.

Byde dropped her first set, 5-7, but came back with a 6-3, 6-4 answer to grab the Bruins' deciding point. Emily Brink put the cherry on top, as the lone senior for the Bruins closed out her match at the No. 6 spot with a 7-5, 6-0 victory.

The Boxers won at No. 1 and No. 3 singles.
