McMINNVILLE --- The George Fox volleyball team turned around after Friday's loss against Pacific (Ore.) with a sweep of Linfield on the road on Saturday, Sept. 21.
George Fox took the match in straight sets, winning by scores of 25-14, 25-19, 25-23. Paige O'Rear led the Bruins in kills for the second consecutive night, registering nine in the contest while Liv Alexander added eight more to lead the Bruins attack.
The Bruins were highly efficient in the first set with a .344 kill percentage that allowed the team to capitalize on many scoring opportunities for a quick win, 25-14. Linfield jumped ahead 10-3 in the second set before George Fox used a pair of 5-0 runs to take control and rally back to keep the Wildcats at bay.
The final set was a tight one as both teams exchanged points and were knotted up at 23-23 before a service error by Linfield's Aylea Dixon put the Bruins ahead 24-23. Sophia Lawrence proceeded to put the match to bed with a game-winning ace to finish off the Wildcats.
O'Rear and Alexander led the team with their nine and eight kills, respectively. Ashtyn Butler had two blocks and Laney Search had a team-high 15 assists. Lawrence put up a match-best 13 digs for the Bruins.
Lawrence passed the 1000-dig mark in her career in the third set with her 12th dig of the night, putting her on pace to crack the Top 10 in program history later this season. The junior libero needs 87 digs to tie former teammate Danyle Dupray for tenth all-time on the Bruins' career leaderboard with 1088 digs and is on pace to pass Dupray by the midpoint of October.
