A Winning Tradition

NEWBERG --- The George Fox women's volleyball team continued on its tear through the second half of Northwest Conference play with a 3-0 sweep of Willamette on Saturday, Oct. 26, as part of Family Weekend.
The two teams traded sideouts to open the match and stayed neck and early with an 8-8 tie before George Fox began to pull away. Kills from Ashtyn Butler and Bailey LeBreton helped create separation and a pair of kills from Paige O'Rear ended the set with a 25-20 final score.
The two sides followed a similar script in set two as the Bruins worked to break an early stalemate with kills by Liv Alexander and O'Rear. Skylar Paul checked in to serve midway through the match and kept the Bearcats off balance, allowing O'Rear and LeBreton to wreak havoc at the net and pull away midway through the second set. A block by LeBreton and Laney Search and a handful of kills from LeBreton finished the set after a 25-19 final score.
With a sweep in sight, the Bruins pulled away early in set three with a 7-3 advantage. The Bearcats did their best to claw back into the set, but the Bruins never trailed in the third stanza and cruised to a sweep after a 25-20 final sealed the match in three.
LeBreton hit .476 with 11 kills and only a single attack error to go with a pair of blocks, while O'Rear finished with a double-double of 14 kills and 12 digs. Sophia Lawrence tallied 21 digs, Search added 38 assists, and Paul played sniper from the line with three aces.

George Fox evened the season series and avenged an earlier loss to Willamette with the sweep. The Bruins have won their last six straight matches to improve to 10-11 overall and are 7-5 against NWC opponents.
