McMINNVILLE, Ore. - For the
second time in as many meetings, Kurtis Wong scored a pair of goals
and this time added an assist, leading the Linfield College
Wildcats to a 3-0 victory over the visiting George Fox University
Bruins in a Northwest Conference men's soccer match Saturday
afternoon here at the Linfield soccer field.
Less than two minutes into the contest, Wong had already found
the back of the net as he notched his fifth goal of the season on
an assist from Travis Isaacs to give Linfield a 1-0 lead.
That score stood up through the rest of the first half.
Linfield came up with another quick goal to start the second half
as Wong, in the 46th minute, assisted on a goal by Gabi Del Rayo.
The Wildcats capped off the scoring in the 64th minute when Isaacs
and Wong connected for the second time, resulting in Wong's sixth
goal of the season.
Cody Tipton finished the afternoon with six saves in goal for
Linfield as the Wildcats limited the Bruins to 10 shots, seven on
goal, with Geoffrey Wacker getting off two good
shots. Bruin keeper Jake Maguire made five saves on 14 shots
by the Wildcats, nine on goal. Linfield held a slight edge in
corners 5-4.
George Fox (4-9 NWC 1-7) visits Willamette University while
Linfield (5-7-1, NWC 4-4) hosts Pacific University in conference
games Sunday, both starting at 2:30 p.m.
