Box Score TACOMA, Wash. – Scoring
a goal within the game's first five minutes, the University
of Puget Sound Loggers jumped out to a quick lead, added two more
goals in the first half, and went on cruise past the visiting
George Fox University Bruins 5-0 in Northwest Conference
men's soccer action Sunday afternoon here at Baker
Stadium.
Connor LaFerriere put the home team ahead with a goal off a
cross from Terence Blackburn at the 4:53 mark of the first half,
and the Loggers never looked back. Andrew White followed with
his third goal of the season when he took a through ball from Colin
McIntosh and sent it home at the 31:13 mark. Closing out the
first-half scoring, Ryan Rash kicked an 18-yarder into the far
corner at 42:27.
Early in the second half, White assisted on Vincent
McCluskey's third goal of the year when he sent a cross into
the box that was redirected into the net at 46:28. The
Loggers' last score was an own-goal off a McCluskey cross at
53:36 that was inadvertantly knocked into the net by a Bruin
defender trying to clear the ball.
Puget Sound controlled play with 16 shots in the match, nine on
goal, while George Fox managed six shots, three by Myles
Sorokovsky, with one on goal. The Loggers also held an 8-0
advantage in corner kicks.
Chris McDonald, the first of two UPS keepers, got the win with
the Loggers' only save of the game, while the Bruins used
three goalies, starter Elliott Davis taking the loss while making
three saves. Jacob Baker had the other Bruin save.
NEXT: George Fox (2-7-1, NWC 0-5-1) returns home
to host Pacific University in a conference match Saturday at 2:30
p.m. on Homecoming Weekend. The game will be preceded by an
NWC women's contest between the Bruins and Lewis & Clark
College at 12:00 noon … Puget Sound (6-3, NWC 5-1), locked
in a three-way tie for first place in the conference with Whitworth
University and Pacific Lutheran University, will host PLU Saturday
at 2:30 p.m.
