Box Score KLAMATH FALLS, Ore. - Rookie
Luke Hammer scored the first George Fox University goal and
assisted on the second in his college debut as the Bruins ended a
20-game winless streak with a 2-0 victory over the Oregon Institute
of Technology Owls in non-conference men's soccer action
Friday night here at Trevor Derrah Field.
Hammer struck at the 35:40 mark in the first half with a score
off an assist from Nick Schoen. Five minutes
late, Hammer launched a pass across the box to Sawyer Meek, who
sent a shot along the ground into the left corner for a big
insurance goal.
Those two scores were more than enough to secure the win for
junior goalkeeper Jacob Baker, making his first college start, who
faced 18 shots in all and seven on goal, saving all of them.
George Fox was held to seven shots, only two on goal, but both went
in past Owls' keeper Tanner Lee. Oregon Tech held a 5-3
edge in corner kicks.
The victory was the first for the Bruins since a 2-1 home win
over Whitman College on Oct. 25, 2009. George Fox had dropped
its final three games of the '09 season and gone 0-15-2 last
year, setting a school record for consecutive games without a win
which is now over.
NEXT: George Fox (1-0) returns home to
host Trinity Lutheran College of Everett, Wash., Monday at 2:00
p.m. at the Austin Sports Complex. The Bruins and the Eagles
met for the first time last year, TLC taking a 4-1 win in Everett
on Sept. 4 ... Oregon Tech (0-2) is off until next Saturday, Sept.
10, when the Owls will host Linfield College at 7:00 p.m.
