Box Score TACOMA, Wash. - Running their
winning streak to five matches in a row while keeping the George
Fox University Bruins winless on the season, the University of
Puget Sound Loggers scored one goal in each half to record a 2-0
victory in Northwest Conference men's soccer action Sunday
afternoon here at Baker Stadium.
Puget Sound took 10 shots in the first half, but the Bruin defense
managed to fend off every Logger attempt until the 29th
minute. A shot by Colin McIntosh was stopped but not
controlled in front of the goal by the Bruins' Elliott Davis,
and in the ensuing scrum, Andrew White was able to get his foot on
the ball and tap it just over the line for a 1-0 Logger lead at the
28:17 mark.
The score remained that way until 20 minutes into the second
half, but the Bruins were unable to mount any serious threat to
tying the game. George Fox had eight shots in the game, three
by Brandon Zebarth which included the Bruins' only shot on
goal in the 26th minute. UPS keeper Chris McDonald turned
that one away and went on to post the shutout, the 24th of his
career which moved him passed current Logger assistant coach Pete
Van Sant on the team's all-time list.
UPS logged nine more shots in the second half for 19 in all,
adding an insurance goal at the 75:38 mark. Landon Gauthier
converted his second penalty kick of the weekend and scored for the
third time after White had drawn a foul in the box to set up the
PK.
Puget Sound held a 6-0 advantage in corner kicks.
