Box Score THOUSAND OAKS, Calif. – In a game that
was statistically much closer than the final score would indicate,
the George Fox University Bruins were stung by a California
Lutheran University goal 22 seconds into the game and wound up on
the short end of a 4-0 score against the Kingsmen in a
non-conference men's soccer match Saturday here at Holland
Stadium.
Kyle Fleming scored the first of his three goals in the game in
a one-on-one situation against George Fox keeper Ricardo Sotelo on
a breakaway following a pass from Ivan Sanchez. He added
another goal in the 42nd minute on a shot to the left corner after
a cross from Tal Zaiet.
In the second half, Fleming scored a rebound goal off a shot
that hit the left post in the 71st minute. The
Kingsmen's final goal came in the 75th minute by Julian
Hernandez, who scored after a pass from the sideline to the front
of the net by Nick Baldi.
Cal Lutheran only held a three-shot advantage in the game,
16-13, and the shots on goal were even at 7-7. The Kingsmen
also held an edge in corner kicks, 5-3. Fleming had five
shots, four on goal, for the Kingsmen, while Nick Schoen paced the
Bruins with three shots, all on goal.
Sotelo had three saves for the Bruins in the first half before
Luke Ridder went the second half in the net. Jack Duncan
worked 78 minutes in goal for the Kingsmen, stymying the Bruins
with seven saves, before Miguel Silva finished up.
