Box Score NEWBERG, Ore. --- George Fox University's men's soccer team honored five of its seniors Sunday afternoon, as the Bruins hosted their last home conference match against the Lutes of Pacific Lutheran University.
The Bruins honored Sam Carlos Jr., Tyler Dyck, Luke Dickens, Myles Sorokovsky and Luke Hammer. Of the five seniors, Hammer will go down in the George Fox record books moving up to #10 All-Time in Goals Scored and tied for 12th All-Time in Points.
The Lutes got on the board early after Joel Frykholm found a cross in the box and struck it well to give a 1-0 advantage. The rest of the first period was a defensive battle as the Bruins locked in and gave the Lutes some trouble. Although the Lutes managed to fire off 10 shots in the first half only three of them were on target.
The Bruins went into the half down 1-0.
PLU got off to another quick start in the second period scoring in the 48th minute to take a 2-0 edge. The Bruins responded 16 minutes later with a corner kick from Arturo Olazaba. Olazaba crossed a perfect ball that found Victor Garcia's head to bring the Bruins within one, 2-1.
Pacific Lutheran continued its strong offensive presence and finished the game recording two more goals to take the 4-1 victory.
George Fox falls to 2-15-1 on the season and 0-13 in the Northwest Conference, while the Lutes improve to 10-9, 7-6 NWC.
The Bruins will finish their season on Friday, Nov. 7 at 7:00 p.m. at Pacific.
