WALLA WALLA, Wash. --- The George Fox men's soccer team finished their two day road trip in Washington against Whitman College, Sunday afternoon, as the Missionaries squeaked by the Bruins with a 2-1 final.
Recap:
The Bruins were the first to get on the board, as Luis Rangel found the back of the net in the 14th minute when Evan Cooney set Rangel up for the go-ahead goal. The Missionaries responded quickly, scoring 33 seconds later when Daniel Kim made a nice pass to Park Harmon, who scored the equalizer for the Missionaries. Both teams went into the half tied up at 1-1.
The second period started out with both teams getting back into the swing of things when Whitman's Ben Freedman scored the game winner for the Missionaries in the 50th minute. Although the Missionaries came out on top, George Fox went toe-to-toe with the Missionaries on the shot chart.
Top Performers:
Rangel was the top performer on the day, recording four shots with two on frame and one goal. Ricardo Sotelo got the start in the net for the Bruins and went the distance, playing all 90 minutes with six saves.
What It Means:
The Bruins are still in fourth in the Northwest Conference after the loss and fall to 3-5-1 in conference play. With five games left in the season, the Bruins have a lot of room to still move up in the standings and away from Linfield, who is the only other team with three wins in the NWC.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins will host Willamette on Friday, Oct. 23 at 6:00 p.m. and travel to Linfield on Sunday, Oct. 25 at 2:30 p.m.
