NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox men's soccer team had a spectacular night, Friday night, as the Bruins came to play and beat Whitman College, 3-1.
Recap:
The Bruins got off to a quick start in the opening minutes, as Luis Rangel used some nifty footwork to get past Whitman's goalkeeper to give the Bruins a 1-0 lead. The Missionaries would respond just before half when Daniel Kim put his laces through it and crossed a ball into the box that found Marcos Medina, who sent in the equalizer. The teams went into the half knotted up at, 1-1.
The second half proved to be all Bruins, though, as they out-shot the Missionaries 14-9. It took just one minute and 50 seconds for the Bruins to send in the game-winner after Liam Clancy set up Sean Owens for the go-ahead goal. Owens recorded his brace 20 minutes later when Rangel sent in a cross that Owens blasted pass Whitman's Baker Conte.
Top Performers:
Owens recorded his first and second goals of the season, while firing off three shots --- all of which were on target. Rangel put up four shots, while recording a goal and an assist. The Bruins finished the night out-shooting the Missionaries 21-18. Ricardo Sotelo earned his fourth win of the season and recorded four saves on the night.
What It Means:
The Bruins stand at 5-6 on the season and 2-3 in the Northwest Conference. They are now tied for fourth in the standings.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins will enjoy a day of rest before they host Whitworth on Sunday, October 4th at 2:30 p.m. The Pirates are the only undefeated team in the NWC.
