NEWBERG, Ore. --- The men's soccer team hosted Pacific Lutheran University today, and the Lutes showed why they are ranked No. 5 in the west region with an 8-1 performance.
Recap:
The Lutes were quick to find the back of the net in the first period, netting three goals in the first 20 minutes. The Bruins threw everything but the kitchen sink at the Lutes, but all attempts were unsuccessful.
The Lutes went into intermission up, 3-0.
The second period was all in favor of the Lutes, as they went on to score five more times. The Bruins were able to not go down without a fight, scoring in the 71st minute after Jose Becerra hit a gifted free kick to the top right corner.
The Bruins fired off eight less shots than the Lutes, 22-16.
Top Performers:
Angelo Florez and Becerra both recorded three shots on the day. Florez had an opportunity in the first with a penalty kick, but it was saved by Lute' keeper Mike Arguello. Ricardo Sotelo got the start for the Bruins and played 57 minutes between the stick with Andrew Phillis playing the other 32 minutes.
What Comes Next:
The Bruins will finish their season at home, as they host Pacific (Ore.) on Saturday, Nov. 7 at 1:30 p.m. on senior day.
