Box Score McMINNVILLE, Ore. --- The George Fox men's soccer team was in a nail-biter Sunday afternoon, as the Bruins finished the double overtime game against the Linfield Wildcats tied at 1-1.
Recap:
The Bruins were strategic and crafty with their possessions, using the most out of their shots to wear down the Wildcats' backline. After 30 minutes of play, Bruins' Sean Owens broke away from his defender to race down the field, and fired off a shot that blazed past the opposing keeper for the first goal of the game.
George Fox did well to keep momentum on their side until break, going into the half with the 1-0 advantage.
Linfield came out ready to pounce in the second half of play with a goal in the 66th minute to even the score up at 1-1. Ryan Kister of Linfield was the hero for the opposing team with the equalizer off a goal in the box.
Both teams battled until the final whistle, but overtime was needed.
Linfield controlled the first overtime period with four shots, but only one was on frame. In the second overtime, the Bruins had a chance for the game-winner from Owens, but the keeper made a nice save.
The Bruins recorded their first tie of the season in conference play.
Top Performers:
Owens recorded three shots on the day with a goal. Trevor Martin and Gabe Ramirez both paced the Bruins with two shots a piece. Andrew Phillis recorded three saves in the 110 minutes of action.
What It Means:
The Bruins are now 4-12-1 on the season and 2-8-1 in the Northwest Conference.
