The George Fox men's soccer team hosted Pacific University for senior day on Saturday, winning a close one, 2-1.
Recap:
The Bruins had a chance to score early on a set piece in the sixth minute. Trevor Martin took a corner that was headed towards the goal by Gabe Ramirez, only to be saved by the opposing keeper.
Pacific managed to score in the 12th minute to give them the early lead, 1-0.
After going back-and-forth with Pacific through the first half, the Bruins were able to score the equalizer in the 40th minute. Trevor Martin beat his defender on the backline and took a shot from the middle that found the back of the net, evening the score at one apiece before halftime.
The Bruins outshot Pacific 6-4 in the first period of play.
An aggressive sequence from the Bruins in the 67th minute nearly resulted in a goal. A shot by senior midfielder Sean Owens hit the woodwork, narrowly missing the back of the net.
The Bruins kept the pressure on, rattling off another two shots against the opposition around the 70-minute mark.
Senior forward Daniel Alonzo took a pass from Gabe Ramirez and, after beating his defenders, found the back of the net to put the Bruins up, 2-1.
Pacific was unable to make it past the staunch Bruin defense as George Fox took home the victory.
Top Performers:
Seniors Sean Owens, Hector Jimenez and Daniel Alonzo all turned in stellar offensive performances in the last games of their college career. Owens tallied two shots, Jimenez tallied three and Alonzo tallied a shot and a goal.
What It Means:
The Bruins finish the season with an overall record of 5-14-1 and 3-10-1 in conference play.
