NEWBERG, Ore. --- The George Fox men's soccer team hosted out-of-conference opponent UC Santa Cruz Tuesday afternoon, losing a tough weekday matchup 4-1.
Recap:
The Bruins came out swinging on a school night, striking first in just the 18th minute of play. Senior forward Daniel Alonzo managed to find the back of the net by corralling in his own shot that rebounded off the opposing keeper, giving the home team the early lead.
The Banana Slugs came back later in the first half with two goals in a matter of just three minutes to take the lead going into halftime, 2-1.
UC Santa Cruz opened the second half strong, scoring again in the 60th minute to widen the gap.
The Bruins played aggressive in the second half, outshooting their opponents 8-6.
With a chance to narrow the deficit around the 70-minute mark, the Bruins took four shots in just three minutes of play but were unable to strike gold.
A late goal by the Slugs summed up the scoring as the Bruins fell, 4-1.
Top Performers:
Alonzo led the Bruins in this one, tallying three shots and a goal. Moises Manon, Hector Jimenez, Trevor Martin and Alejandro Saldana all contributed two shots to round out the offensive effort.
What It Means:
The Bruins head into conference play with a record of 2-4.

The Bruins will travel to Washington on Saturday to take on Whitman in the first conference game of the season. Start time is set for 2:30pm.
